How to help kids feel calmer with the breath

“Just take a deep breath..” maybe the advice that’s needed help calm an emotional storm, but let’s face it, being actually able to take a deep calming breath is easier said than done. No matter how young or old you are!

So, how do we help kids to manage their emotions using the breath, or, how do we simply engage children in breathing activities?

There’s one tried and tested strategy that makes teaching breathwork accessible and engaging so that kids get all calming and grounding the benefits.

And that is to use the body!

Moving the body to the rhythm of the breath, helps to make the breath ‘visible’ and therefore easier for kids to “get it” and has the added benefit of helping to regulate the nervous system through movement.
