Shine your light

Whether you’re into sport or not I find the Olympics to be inspiring, watching people at the top of their sport. Appreciating the hours and hours of practice, the commitment and dedication is has taken to be at this level.

And with the Para Olympics about to start, I’m even more inspired and in awe of these athlete’s resilience, focus, and ability to overcome adversity.

I’m reminded again and again that becoming the best version of yourself is all about mindset.

Offering children the opportunity to reflect on their special qualities is so important in supporting them to develop resilience and self-belief. It can be easy for kids to feel that only those who are “good” at sport or get “good” grades at school are special and worthy of praise. But we all have something amazing to offer the world, we each have our own unique qualities that are worth celebrating. 🎊

In Kids Yoga we are always encouraging kids to shine their unique light into the world and recently the children have enjoyed making this fun Olympic torches where each child writes out their amazing qualities.

Ask the children to reflect on their qualities, what makes them great! Perhaps they are kind, or helpful, maybe they always try to make someone laugh who looks sad, or perhaps they are determined, persistent, and don’t give up. Their special qualities could be that they are a good friend, a caring sibling or are dependable.

Write their qualities on each of flames. Cut out the flames and colour in.

Take an A4 sized piece of paper, starting at the bottom corner, roll into a cone shape and secure with sticky tape.

Attach (with sticky tape or staple) the flames.

Let this torch remind you of all your great qualities 😊

Keep shining your amazing light into the world!
